About this coffee

Discover Perth's Best Roasters - One Month at a Time

A monthly rotating single origin feature, picked the same way we pick the Roaster of the Month: carefully chosen single origins from across our roaster network, refreshed each month. For drinkers who want to see what one origin can do without committing to a full multi-coffee box.

September 2026 Featured Pair: Singular, Costa Rica & Ethiopia

For September, both single origins come from Singular Roasters, our Roaster of the Month. A crisp, washed Costa Rican on one side, a fruit-soaked natural Ethiopian on the other. Two different origins, two different processing outcomes, two different drinking moments, selected to show what Singular does when given room to work across regions.

El Tigre (Costa Rica)
Medium Roast | Red Apple, Nougat & Chocolate
A washed lot from Tarrazu, built on catuai, caturra and typica varietals and wet milled at the family's private mill in Barva. The beans rest in their parchment right up until export, which locks in moisture and preserves the acidity. Red apple brightness up front, nougat sweetness through the middle, chocolate underneath to ground it. Crisp, clean and quietly classy.

Harosema (Ethiopia)
Medium Roast | Nectarine, Caramel & Cherry
A natural-process lot from the family-run Harosema washing station in Guji, dried up to 26 days on raised beds. Ripe nectarine and cherry lead, with a caramel sweetness underneath to keep it balanced. Naturals often run wild and jammy. This one stays juicy and clean, so the fruit reads as fruit rather than ferment.

Together, they cover the two directions processing can take a coffee. The Costa Rican for cups where you want crispness and definition, with the apple given room to show. The Ethiopian for fruit and sweetness, with enough control that it never blurs into one flat note.

Perfect for: drinkers who switch origins through the week, anyone who wants to taste what washed versus natural processing actually does to a cup, and people curious about what one roaster makes of two very different growing regions.

In milk

In milk, expect the smooth side: chocolate, caramel and a bit of nuttiness through a flat white or latte.

Black

Black, they open up with more range, from rich and bold to a brighter, fruitier lift depending on the roaster.

A different single origin lands each month, picked because it's the most interesting thing on the shelf right now.

A starting point for every coffee in this box

Dialled in on a Breville Barista Express

Dose
16.5g of fresh grounds in the basket
Yield
36-38g of espresso in the cup
Time
28 to 32 seconds, timed from the first drop
Grind
Fine, like caster sugar. Bitter and slow? Go a touch coarser. Sour and fast? A touch finer.

Tip: Start here. Not quite right? Change one thing — usually the grind — and tomorrow's cup is better. Today's is still fresh coffee.

Questions about this coffee

Where does this sit for strength?
Every coffee we list sits somewhere on a range from gentle to punchy. Check the roast level above, or ask us and we'll place it for you.
How fresh is this coffee?
Our roasters roast fresh for us in small batches, and we usually dispatch within 1 to 2 business days. Coffee actually improves for the first week or so after roasting, then holds well sealed. The roast date is on the bag.
What if I don't like it?
Tell us what didn't work and we'll help you find something closer to your taste. Full policy in our help centre.
Will this work with my machine?
Yes. If you're pulling espresso, the Starting Point above gives you a dose, yield and shot time to begin from. Every machine and grinder is a little different, so expect to adjust from there.
