Meet Kaltiva Coffee Roasters: Our Featured Perth Roaster for July 2026
Kaltiva Coffee Roasters has been roasting in Wangara since day one with a simple idea: make coffee people actually want to drink. No pretension, no jargon, just well-sourced beans roasted in small batches on the west coast. They run a roastery and coffee bar out of their Wangara headquarters, supply cafes across WA, and through July they’re our Roaster of the Month. The lineup runs the full range. Four blends, two single origins and a decaf, covering most of how people actually drink at home.
It is a roaster that earns a standing order rather than a one-time curiosity, which is exactly why we wanted them on as a feature. The coffees below are the ones we think are worth knowing, whether you take your morning cup with milk, drink it black, or are still working out where to start.
Small Batches, Done on the West Coast
Kaltiva roasts in small batches out of Wangara, and that is where the control comes from. Smaller batches mean tighter consistency cup to cup, and more room to dial a roast to the bean in front of them rather than running everything to one fixed curve. They source from farms working to ethical and sustainable standards, and they treat that sourcing as the starting point rather than a line on the bag. The rest is roast craft: finding where each coffee tastes best, then landing it in the same place the next time.
That last part matters more than it sounds. A signature blend that holds up black or with milk, week after week, asks more of a roaster than a one-off showpiece does. Their single origins are roasted omni, meaning they are built to work across espresso and filter rather than tuned to a single method, which is the same instinct pointed at versatility. Kaltiva has spent years getting that consistency right, and it is the quiet reason their blends turn up on cafe menus around the state.

A Word from Kaltiva
Kaltiva’s blends come out of their own roastery under head roaster Liam Valiukenas, whose seasonal “Roasters Own” releases are usually where the experimentation shows up first. But ask the team what the business is actually about, and the answer has less to do with machinery than with people.
“At Kaltiva Coffee Roasters, we’re continuing to focus on what matters most to us, sourcing exceptional coffee, supporting local businesses, and creating memorable coffee experiences for the Perth community. We continue to be humbled by the support from our wholesale partners and local coffee community.”
That community runs both ways. One of the parts of the business they rate most highly is watching the cafes they supply do well.
“One of our favourite parts of the business is seeing cafés succeed with our coffee. Whether it’s helping a new venue launch, training baristas to get the best from our blends, or simply seeing regular customers discover a new favourite coffee, those stories are what drive us every day.”
It is the same reason we run a Roaster of the Month in the first place. Good local coffee gets better when the people making it and the people drinking it actually find each other.
This Month’s Selection
Seven Kaltiva coffees across three categories.
Blends
Foundation Medium Roast | Milk Chocolate, Honey & Vanilla Slice The easy one. A Colombian and El Salvadorian blend built around milk chocolate, honey and a soft vanilla-slice sweetness. Made for good books, long breakfasts and slow afternoons. Comfortable black, better with milk, and hard to get tired of.
Neighbourhood Medium-Dark Roast | Salted Caramel, Plum & Roasted Hazelnuts A bit more going on. Ethiopian, Guatemalan and Indian coffees brought together for salted caramel and roasted hazelnut depth, with a plum note lifting the finish. Suits anyone who wants an everyday cup with some weight and a little fruit behind it.
All Nighter Medium-Dark Roast | Blueberry & Chocolate Fudge The strong one. A four-origin blend of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico, leaning into chocolate-fudge richness with an unexpected blueberry edge. Built for early starts, long shifts and anyone who takes their morning coffee seriously.
PCX x Kaltiva Exclusive Blend Medium Roast | Chocolate, Toffee & Brown Sugar Our collaboration blend with Kaltiva. Full-bodied and comforting, with chocolate, toffee and brown-sugar sweetness running through it. Especially good with milk, and reliable enough to be the bag you reach for without thinking. Only available through PCX.
Single Origins
If single origins are where you usually start, our Single Origin of the Month feature picks a fresh one from a different roaster every month.
Brazilian Omni Roast | Pecan Pie, Chocolate Brownie & Maple Syrup A sweet, dessert-leaning Brazilian roasted omni, so it holds up however you brew it. Pecan pie and chocolate brownie up front, maple syrup underneath. Easy to like, with enough richness to stay interesting black or with milk, and a good first step for anyone curious about single origin but wary of anything too sharp.
Burundi Kigina Omni Roast | Red Apple, Tropical Fruit & Bergamot A clean, fruit-forward microlot from the Kigina washing station, and a very limited one. Red apple and tropical fruit lead, with a bergamot lift on top. Bright and fresh, and best appreciated without milk getting in the way. The kind of coffee that rewards a bit of attention when you brew it.
Decaf
For more in this category, our Decaf of the Month feature rotates a different decaf each month, picked the same way.
Zero Mileage Premium Decaf | Black Forest Cake, Caramel & Amaretto Decaf worth choosing on purpose. A Colombian base, decaffeinated without chemicals, holding onto the kind of richness that usually disappears with the caffeine. Black forest cake and caramel depth with an amaretto edge on the finish. Full-bodied, and an easy evening cup.
Getting the Best From It at Home
Whichever bag you land on, Kaltiva’s advice for getting the most out of it at home is refreshingly unfussy.
“For coffee lovers looking to improve their home brewing, our biggest tip is simple: start with fresh coffee, use clean filtered water, and don’t be afraid to experiment. Small adjustments to grind size, brew ratio, or extraction time can dramatically improve your cup. Great coffee isn’t about expensive equipment. It’s about consistency and understanding the fundamentals.”
It is the same thinking behind our free Home Barista Guide, if you want a place to start dialling things in.
Beyond the Cup
Kaltiva’s approach holds across everything they do: source responsibly, roast in small batches, support the cafes and customers around them, and keep the experimenting going. The blends are the backbone, the single origins are where it gets interesting, and the decaf is good enough to order on its own terms. As they put it:
“As Perth’s specialty coffee scene continues to evolve, we’re excited to remain part of the journey, bringing new coffees, new ideas, and plenty of great conversations to the cup.”
You do not have to take any of that on faith though. The cups do the talking.
